Beet Kvass Recipe
It is a simple recipe, no time-consuming, and no excess money spending. You will prepare in just a few minutes, however the fermentation process will need several days. The quantities of this recipe offer six servings of beet kvass.
- 4 organic beets
- Filtered water
- 1 tablespoon of Himalayan salt
- Lemon, orange, ginger or other spices at your own taste
- Half a gallon jar
Method of preparation:
Start with washing your organic beets. Peeling them is not necessary. Cut them into cubes, and then fill up your jar. After that, pour the filtered water in it, but leave an inch space from the top. Now, include salt and your preferred flavorings. In the end, cover the jar with cheesecloth, and secure it with a rubber band.
Leave the jar to stand on the kitchen counter for 3 to5 days at room temperature. You need to check the content each day, and remove the foam appearing on the surface.
You will know when your beets have finished fermenting when the tonic obtains nice, deep red color. There will be also fizzy bubbles at the top. In this case, remove the cheesecloth, and put on a lid. Seal it well, and keep the jar in your refrigerator. The fermentation process will continue.
