Epsom salts have been used since forever by various cultures around the world. The name comes from the bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England. However, this is not ordinary salt as it is a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Both ingredients provide powerful health benefits and detox the entire organism.
Epsom salts can be utilized in household matters, gardening, body detox treatments and so on. They are not expensive and easily available.
They can be easily absorbed through the skin and in that way entering the bloodstream. The human skin is a porous membrane that can absorb the salts thereby eliminating toxins from the body.
Once included to bathwater, they incite a process known as reverse osmosis, which removes salt and harmful toxins from the body, leaving space for the magnesium and sulfate to enter the system.
Magnesium is vital for more than 325 enzymes, alleviates inflammation, improves the function of nerves and muscles, enhances blood flow and the oxygenation throughout the whole body.
Sulfates, on the other hand are necessary for healthy skin, nervous tissues, and joints. This mixture of magnesium and sulfate eliminates toxins and helps in building key protein molecules in the brain tissue and joints.
Regular use of Epsom salt baths aids in the case of athlete’s foot, toenail fungus, gout, muscle pain, sprains, bruises; furthermore it treats chronic diseases and pain, soothes inflammation, detoxifies the body, and regulates the mineral and sulfur balance in the body.
However, prior use, persons with cardiovascular diseases, pregnant women, persons with open burns or wounds of the body, and dehydrated persons need to consult their physician.
Epsom Salt Bath
Here it is the way how to take it:
For this bath you will need 40 minutes since the body needs 20 minutes to remove toxins, and 20 more to absorb the minerals in the bath water. Fill your bath with warm water and then include the Epsom salts in the amounts as listed below:
Children under 60 lbs.: Add 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath.
Persons in the range of 60-100 lbs.: Add 1 cup of salts to a standard size bath.
Persons in the range of 100-150 lbs.: Add 1 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath.
Persons in the range of 150-200 lbs.: Add 2 cups of salts to a standard size bath.
Note: For every 50lbs larger, you need to include 1/2 cup of salts more.
You can enhance the antioxidants benefits of the bath by including 1/2 cup of olive oil, which is good for the skin as it contains polyphenols. Likewise, you can include some ginger or cayenne powder to boost the heat levels and sweat out more toxins.
Do not use soap because it will interfere with the detox process and the action of the minerals. After that, rest for 1 to 2 hours.
If you suffer from arthritic joints, then stay active as much as possible to protect the joints from congestion.
