For This You Don’t Need Surgery: 5 Ways to Treat Bunions and Heal Swollen Joints in Just 7 Days !

Hallux valgus, better known under the name of bit toe, which may be accompanied by a bunion is the result of a deformation of the joint of the big toe, which leads to a deviation of the foot. Here are 5 home remedies for treating hallux valgus without resorting to surgery.

Hallux valgus / bunion: what is it?

Commonly known as bunion, it is a foot deformity that occurs when the big toe bone deviates toward the second toe. This mainly affects women. The aggravating factors are: wearing high heels or too tight shoes, a weakness in the structure of the foot, a rheumatoid arthritis.

This foot deformity can cause difficulties to carry your normal shoes and even pain when walking. In fact, when the deformed toe becomes salient, bunion will rub on the inside of the shoe and cause a thickening of the skin that will become harder, red and painful because of inflammation (bursitis).

This deformation of the forefoot will have an impact on other toes that will curl. Result: the big toe will expand, causing inflammation and, in most cases, pain due to the fact that most of the weight is supported by foot joints.

Hallux valgus: several stages of evolution…

Initially, bunion is characterized by a painful joint caused by the pressure of the shoe, which can also lead to inflammation. At a later stage, when the deviation reaches the middle of the foot, a secondary deformation occurs.

There are several methods to treat this problem, and the most common solution is to perform a surgical operation. But this solution doesn’t always give good results. Here are some home remedies that can effectively treat hallux valgus.

Bay leaves

For treating hallux valgus, we must at first cleanse the body of residual salt deposits. How to do it? In the evening, cook a tablespoon of fresh bay leaves previously crushed in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes. Pour this mixture into a thermos and leave it overnight.

In the morning, strain the mixture and drink in small sips throughout the day (it is important to gradually drink the solution for successful treatment). You have to repeat the same procedure for three consecutive days. After a week of pause, repeat the same procedure.

During this treatment, urination may be more frequent. No need to worry, this is a quite normal reaction indicating that the salt in your body starts to be removed (which may also slightly irritate the bladder).

After ten days, you will see the first results. You will feel some relief and a reduction in joint pain, which will gradually disappear.

This grandmother’s bay leaves based remedy is also very effective in removing gallstones.

The total duration of the treatment is two months, the time required for the bunion to disappear completely.

Further treatment with bay leaves

In a container, pour ½ cup of 96% alcohol with 5 large bay leaves crushed beforehand. Let the solution sit for a week, then strain the liquid. Then soak your feet in a hot water (1 gallon)  in combination with baking soda (1 tablespoon). Soak your feet for about 15 minutes and then apply this mixture on the bunion, massaging the painful areas. Make this treatment preferably at night before you go to sleep and then put cotton socks to maximize the effectiveness of this remedy.

Iodine and aspirin

This home remedy is another grandmothers’ trick to relieve painful joints and bunions.

Crush five aspirin tablets and add 2 teaspoons of iodine. Mix until the aspirin dissolves. Then apply this solution to the painful areas (joints, ankles, toes) every night. You will quickly find a pain relief, particularly in the feet.

Soap

Used regularly, this treatment will relieve the pain and inflammation caused by hallux valgus. Grate some soap and massage the painful area with it few minutes. Wash and dry your foot.

Povidone iodine

Before sleep, soak a cotton swab in a little Povidone Iodine and apply to the bunion. Allow the iodine to dry on the skin for it to be well absorbed (do not rinse). Then, put on cotton socks and go to bed. To be effective, this treatment must be repeated every day for a month.

Optional: You can also mix equal parts of iodine and lemon juice that you will apply to the bunion.
