Hotdogs are one of the most popular junk food in the US which is consumed by everyone in the US. What is staggering about this is the fact that according to new research studies, hotdogs can cause cancer. Now hotdogs have been put in the category of cancer-causing fast food which leads to 4 kinds of cancer.
The roots of hotdogs comes from the German immigrants in the 19th century which introduced it for the first time in the US. According to the World Health Company (WHO), all processed meats lead to cancer.
Hotdogs are made of mixed food such as beef, chicken and pork. They are produced from the leftovers of steaks and pork chops as well as “edible” slaughter by-products including heads, fat, skin, animal feet, ears etc.
During the process the ingredients are mixed in which the producers add lots of additives such as salt, corn syrup, nitrates, sat and many other chemicals. All these products are linked to cancer which makes hotdogs one of the cancer-causing food.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine released a ranking of danger foods, and surprisingly they ranked hotdogs on the same level as smoking.
Some of the most dangerous additives that are added during the process are nitrates and nitrites. These additives during the production process bind with amines on high heat which forms nitrosamines.
The nitrosamines are directly linked to development of the following cancer:
- Colon cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Bladder cancer
The American Institute for Cancer study found that people who consume at least one hotdog during the day increase the risk for developing colorectal cancer by 21%. In fact, even the organic hotdogs have nitrite which is still found in high amounts and it is considered cancerous.
