Great Discovery! Read This Before Swallowing Another Ibuprofen Again

Turmeric is a spice with many health benefits. Great for the skin and the heart, effective to prevent cancer and Alzheimer’s, good for the digestive system, turmeric may also help treat and relieve osteoarthritis as effectively as ibuprofen!

Main spice in Asian countries, including India, turmeric is widely used for its special flavor and distinct color. But this spice is certainly not appreciated for its culinary properties only. In fact, turmeric is also popular for its many therapeutic and medicinal properties.

This spice has a powerful antioxidant, antiseptic, antibacterial properties, and is considered a true natural anti-inflammatory agent that acts as an analgesic. A property discovered by the ancient practitioners of traditional medicine of different civilizations, corroborated by science today. It also has been proven that turmeric is very effective to relieve arthritis pain in the knee.

According to the results of a clinical study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, this spice is a better alternative for treating knee arthritis than ibuprofen, an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug prescribed to alleviate symptoms of arthritis.

The study was conducted on 107 people with knee arthritis who were divided into two groups of 55 and 52 people. One group received a daily dose of 800 mg ibuprofen, while the other was administered with 2 grams of turmeric extract per day, for the period of 6 weeks.

During this period, the researchers measured the degree of pain experienced during certain activities such as walking or climbing stairs, and also analyzed the function of the knee during 300 feet walk, and going up and down the stairs.

Towards the end of the study, both groups have noticed a considerable improvement. There was no big difference in the results, except when both groups were required to walk 300 feet. The group receiving turmeric presented better performance and reported less pain when taking the stairs. In addition, they showed fewer side effects than those who took ibuprofen; 33.3% against 44.2%, respectively.

Thus, turmeric may be as effective as ibuprofen to relieve and treat knee arthritis, and with less side effects! Indeed, this natural spice has no notable side effects or complications. It is a 100% natural and non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory.

However, people receiving anticoagulant therapy, antacid, or diabetes should avoid consuming this spice because of its active ingredient, curcumin. The ingredient is incompatible with the molecules of these drugs.

Recently, ibuprofen has been widely criticized for its ability to increase the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction. According to the European Medicines Agency, this product can be dangerous if taken in high doses. Another anti-inflammatory drug, Vioxx, was also pulled from the market after clinical trials have proven that it can cause heart disease.

Taking into account the potential danger of certain anti-inflammatory drugs, it is healthier to opt for natural alternatives. Spices, including turmeric, are very accessible and economical.

Turmeric also has many other health benefits thanks to its major active ingredient: curcumin.
