If Your Body Suddenly Jerks While You Are Falling Asleep, This is What it Means

The body always shows us what is wrong with it; it sends us signals and certain unusual changes. One of those ways is the strange twitching before falling asleep. This may sound familiar to many of you. However, do not trouble yourself as you are not the only person that is happening to you.

The long working day has passed, and you hardly wait to be in your comfortable bed, but just before falling asleep a sudden twitch of the body occurs leaving you without sleep questioning what is really wrong.

The Hypnic Twitch

It is scientifically known as the hypnic twitch manifested by a feeling of falling resulting in body twitching. This may results from caffeine consumption before going to bed or due to the intake of certain medications such as Adderal and Ritalin. Likewise, this occurs to persons who are over-exhausted, and when they finally go to bed the twitching appears as a result of quickly falling asleep. Consequently, the brain cannot keep up with the sleep stages, meaning that when the brain is confused like in this case, it restarts itself thus waking you up with a burst of chemicals. This phenomenon is not harmful for your health, but not pleasant experience.
