Diet Soda’s Worst Fear Coming True: Massive Study Links Aspartame to Major Problems

In a study performed on 60,000 women in a period of time of over ten years, disturbing results appeared revealing that women who consume two or more diet drinks a day are at much higher risk of getting acardiovascular disease with increased death rates.

What is aspartame?

Aspartame is the main sweetener for diet soda, and is very harmful because it can cause seizures and many other health issues. We all know how frequently we consume diet soda thinking that it has less sugar than the regular one. This sweetener is very dangerous especially for women who consume it as they are at 30% higher risk of suffering from any heart disease.

This is what this huge study has revealed conducted at The University of Iowa:

  • Women who regularly consumed two or more diet drinks per day are at 30% higher threat of having a heart attack or stroke and 50% percent more likely to die from the related diseases.

The findings from this study were further scrutinized by Dr. Ankur Vyas, the lead investigator of the study confirming that they are consistent with some previous data, specifically those linking diet drinks to the metabolic syndrome. The researchers have even adjusted the data considering the demographic features and other cardiovascular risk factors, like smoking, body mass index, hormone therapy use, energy intake, salt consumption,sugar-sweetened beverage consumption, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and physical activity.

The data showed that younger women who consumed two or more diet drinks a day were more likely to be smokers, and had a higher prevalence of diabetes, high blood pressure, and higher body mass index.

 Lower Diet Soda Sales

The latest data show that the sales of diet soda are slipping meaning the market of the largest aspartame sale is slowly being cut off.

According to Time Magazine, quoting:“One reason for the decline could be a growing awareness of the obesity epidemic in the US and growing health concerns surrounding sugar-sweetened beverages. “

According to Reuters, even industry experts confirm that the beverage industry of diet sodas have suffered sale loss due to the people’s awareness of the harmful effect of the artificial sweeteners like aspartame. This study has started a movement which has resulted in sales decline even to the branded diet sodas. Concerns regarding these artificial sweeteners have increasingly risen, and people started to use natural sweeteners which are healthier than the artificial ones.

It is good that the overall sales of soda are slipping down meaning that people will be less exposed to theharmfulhigh fructose corn syrup (mostly GM) which brings   a whole variety of health threats.
