It is a known fact for decades that the most important meal in the day is breakfast particularly if it is consisted of healthy, nutritious ingredients. Therefore, for your breakfast meal always choose beneficial foods, and get that energy boost during the day.
Unfortunately, it is believed by some people that skipping breakfast is the quickest way of losing weight, which is completely wrong. Namely if you do this you will suffer from unhealthy cravings all day long.
What is the healthiest breakfast meal that you can get?
For sure that is the oatmeal confirmed by a recent study which results were released in the Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism. In this particular study 36 men and women participated that were divided in 3 groups.
Each one of the participants was supposed to take in 350 calories a day. The first group ate oatmeal, the second one cornflakes, and the third one drank water for breakfast. Each group had the same lunch options.
After their breakfast consumption experts measured the satiety levels in each participant in the following three hours. Likewise, blood sugar and insulin levels were checked.
The results showed that participants in the first group had fewer cravings than the other tested groups, and consumed 31% less calories for lunch. Furthermore, the breakfast oatmeal proved to be the healthiest option for obese people as they consumed even 50% less calories for lunch.
Participants in the second and third group had the need for food after 3 hours, which was not the case with the group who consumed oatmeal. Namely, oatmeal stays in the stomach more time, and because of that offers the feeling of satiety. On the other hand, cornflakes cause spikes in blood sugar levels.
Moreover, other studies were performed on this matter, and all of them confirmed that oatmeal promotes weight loss, and reduces the intake of calories by 31-50%. Therefore, include oats to your meals, stews, salads, side dishes, and desserts.
