Honey is considered to be the super food on the whole planet and because of that many people consume it. However, due to that high demand of honey there are many products on the market labeled as natural honey but in fact you are getting fake honey packed with some harmful syrups and sugars. Moreover, it is contaminated with heavy metals and antibiotics, according to Safety News 76% of the honey available on the market in the USA is fake. The honey is produced by bees, but they are given fructose and corn syrup.
So, if bees consume fructose and corn syrup, then the honey they produce does not have any nutritional value like the natural honey. Proper nutrition is vital for having strong and healthy colonies of bees. Bees need carbs in their nutrition but only if they are gotten in a natural way by collecting nectar or honeydew from the plants. Natural carbs offer them the required energy for all the activities while foraging and within the hive.
When the natural sources are limited the supply of a nest of carbohydrates is removed, or if the honey is harvested by people. When something like this happens, bees are given sucrose solution, inverted sugar syrup, and also other syrups such as HFCS, or starch syrup and high fructose corn syrup.
Most honey available on the market is fake
This fake honey does not have in its content bee pollen, and because of that it is fake. Sadly, but true the producers of honey extract the bee pollen from a machine and then mix it with imported honey from China and India. This type of honey is not only present in the states but also all around the world, and there is no valid information from where it comes from.
High content of pesticides in our crops
This use of the pesticides on our crops is reflected on the bees as their honey also contains pesticides. The use of pesticide clothianidin is banned in Europe because the European Food Safety Authority declared it as not acceptable and safe for use. Nevertheless, in the USA this pesticide is still used on crops on 143 million acres of land. In addition to this, the USA did not forbid the use of thiamethoxam and imidacloprid which are accountable for bees’ death, which is not the case with other places in the world.
High use of antibiotics given to bees
Bees cam also get sick, and because of that beekeepers give their bees veterinary antibiotics, including chloramphenicol, streptomycin, and sulfonamides so that they protect them from illnesses. So, the honey that these bees produce is also contaminated with these antibiotics, which can very much influence the health of the person who consume it. For instance, if the bee honey has chloramphenicol in its content, the person who consumes it can be prone to the development of aplastic anemia and even cancer. Plus, high dosages of sulfonamides and streptomycin can be extremely dangerous for people.
How to detect artificial honey?
4 TESTS TO FIND OUT FAKE HONEY
Perform this test by including 1 tablespoon of honey into a glass of water. It should drop in the glass water and remain there, but if it starts dissolving, then this means that it is a fake honey.
Just place one drop of honey on the thumb. The drop should remain at one place, but if this is not the case and starts spreading out and spilling, then this for sure is fake honey.
Light a Fire
For this test you need to place a matchstick in the honey and then light it. If you are dealing with a natural honey, then it will get burnt. If you are dealing with a fake honey, it will not get burnt as a result of the moisture.
Shelf Life Test
It is a normal thing for the pure natural honey to crystallize over time, and if this is not the case then you are dealing with a fake honey as this one stays in a syrupy form
