Sciatica is a health condition which is accompanied by great pain which stabs down both legs and up your back. It can be really excruciating making your life miserable.
When the lumbar nerve root has experienced some kind of pressure then it results in all sorts of pain. In fact, any type of vertebrae injury can put mass amounts of pressure on your nerve root. Sciatica is manifested by numbness, tingling, and pain in the legs which can significantly disturb your sleeping pattern experiencing sleepless nights. There are many painkillers which can soothe the pain, but that it is only temporarily and most of them contain plenty of chemicals. In order to solve this condition you can implement some of these exercises:
- Reclining Pose
Lie on your back, and bring your right leg up to a right angle and hold it with both hands behind the thigh, locking your fingers. Then, take your left leg and place your ankle against the knee. Keep the position for couple of seconds before changing legs. This position helps to stretch the tiny piriformis muscle, which can become inflamed thus pressing against the sciatic nerve causing pain. Repeat the stretch by changing sides performing the exact workout with the other leg.
- Pigeon Pose
There are different versions of the pose, but all of them work well. For this pose you need to widely open the hips. It will release the stress on the lower nerve roots and it will almost instantly soothe sciatica pain. But, you have to stretch well before you start doing it.
- Hamstring Stretching
This is an amazing exercise for lowering sciatica pain. The hamstring muscles are situated on the back of the thighs. Too tight hamstrings will cause stronger back and sciatica pain.
- Low Lunge
This exercise will help you to stretch the left hip flexor. Therefore, just like a runner’s lunge, put your right leg forward with the knee over the ankle and the left knee on the floor. Then position your feet flat on the mat.
Sciatica pain can be very annoying and hurtful as one pinched nerve can trigger plenty of pain in many different areas of the body. For that reason, it is best to start using the above mentioned beneficial exercises and try to avoid the use of pain killers or other pharmaceuticals.
