Apple cider vinegar – ACV is a powerful substance used for many purposes and offering many health benefits. Thanks to its strong anti-fungal and antibacterial properties it can treat numerous health issues such as colds, allergies, obesity, acid reflux, and many more. Likewise, it is a great beauty care product too.
However, aside the fact that it offers a wide spectrum of advantages, in some cases it can do more damage than good. You need to be very careful with the use of ACV when you are on certain medications or if you struggle with particular medical condition.
Avoid Use of ACV When Using Following Medications
- Digoxin or Lanoxin
These medications are commonly used in the case of heart disease, however if they are taken together with apple cider vinegar, they may cause damage. The apple cider vinegar will impede the potassium absorption thereby increasing the risk of side effects like mood swings, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness.
As you may already know the common medication in case of diabetes is insulin. This drug regulates the blood sugar levels, but in combination with apple cider vinegar many significantly reduce potassium and blood sugar levels because ACV also controls blood sugar levels.
Microzidea, Diuril, Lasix and Thalitone are diuretics taken in the case of bloating in order to treat water retention. But, their use may lead to dehydration, and the use of apple cider vinegar raises the risk.
Avoid Use of ACV in Case of:
- Pregnancy or Nursing
There are still no solid findings on the effects of apple cider vinegar can have on pregnant women and nursing mothers, therefore it is best to avoid its use.
As mentioned before apple cider vinegar and insulin reduce potassium levels in the body, and if combined together, they may cause severe health issues.
- Post menopause
When women are in the post menopause period they have decreased bone density, and the use of apple cider vinegar can reduce potassium levels in the body which weakens the bones. For that reason, too much intake of apple cider vinegar may lead to osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
