This Robot Planter Follows the Sunlight & Throws Tantrums If You Don’t Water It

Our home looks much better when there are plenty of houseplants in it. They beautify our home offering the needed warmth and beauty. But, houseplants are not only décor; they are so much more, offering a wide range of benefits. They are air purifiers, helping us with the breathing, sleeping, mood, memory and so on.

In general, houseplants are needed in our home not solely for their warmth and beauty, but also for health reasons. However, although we are great fans of plants we can easily neglect them due to our hectic schedule and lifestyle. Maybe it is not intentional, but our indoor plants can die very easily if not properly attended. Fortunately, there is a new invention on the market that can keep our plants in good health. We are talking about the robot planter named as the HEXA Plant.

This robot was invented by the Vincross’s founder Sun Tianqi who was triggered by seeing a dead sunflower at a flower expo. Being an expert in flowers he knew that this plant could have been easily saved if it received its needed sunlight. He really thought about it how it could have been saved and thus invented this robot planter.

Here it is how his idea came up, he wrote in his blog:

The original idea of the project came from a dead sunflower. In 2014, I went to see a sunflower exhibition and found myself focused on a dead sunflower near a ground of blooms. The dead flower sat in a place that was always in a shadow.

I had no idea how it ended up there or why it died – whether it was because of the lack of sunshine or water – but it was just there, and it was dead. I thought if it could move a little bit, take a 30-feet walk out of the shadow to where the other sunflowers were, it would have lived healthily. But it didn’t.

The robot planter has the function to move plants towards the sunlight in the home thus making them thrive as best as possible.

He added:

Plants are passive. Eternally, inexplicably passive. No matter if they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they lack sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them.

They have the fewest degrees of freedom among all the creatures in nature. This is simply the default setting that nature gives to plants.”

This robot will properly take care of your plants and not only in terms of the needed sunlight, but as well as shade when necessary or watering. The sun will be always available for your plants and also the shade for cooling off. Every leaf will get the needed sunlight as the HEXA Plant will spin the plant according to the sunlight. The watering will be done by you, but the robot will remind you with its stomping around when your plant needs watering.

This robot can spin around and even do a happy dance in the sunny spots of your home entertaining you and keeping your plants save. It is well equipped with an infrared sensor, a distance sensor, and a 720p camera with night vision. Plus, it has a built-in Wi-Fi and many ports (USB) to expand its many talents.

The Hexa Plant is still not available for purchase, but we hope that it will soon become available for many customers.

People who are interested in robotics can check the abilities of the original HEXA, how it walks around the home, reacts to commands, decodes new actions, crawls up various surfaces and uses a camera with night vision to conquer multiple terrains.
