Having a baby is the biggest blessing in life, but we all know that sleepless nights are inevitable for parents. Well, there is an inventive piece of furniture that will ease your early parenthood. The rocking chair with an attached bassinet is something that young parents should have in their home. In this chair parents can rock the baby in a hands-free way while resting on a sofa enjoying a good book, amazing, isn’t it?

Some inventions are really made for the good of people especially in this case for the parents of a baby.

The Emerson Nursery Rocker

This piece of furniture is comprised of a rocking chair and bassinet combo from Karla Dubois. The rocker armchair and bassinet are neatly attached allowing the parents to rock their baby into a calmly and sleepy state, and at the same doing some other tasks or simply relaxing.

This item is not used only when your baby is small, the bassinet can be detached so the chair can be easily converted into a single-wide rocker. What is very important is that the chair is made of 100% linen and the extra soft, breathable mesh bassinet can keep the baby at the ideal temperature.

Tips for Good Baby Sleep

It is normal for the newborns to get 14 to 17 hours of sleep in 24-hour period, and some of them (lucky parents) sleep up to 18 or 19 hours a day, waking up every few hours to eat and again fall asleep. But, as they grow older they need to learn the difference between day and night, and these sleep habits can be very useful:

  • Avoid looking your baby directly in the eyes

Eye contact for babies means playtime thus preventing them from having their needed sleep. So, when it is time for sleeping, do not look your baby in the eyes.

  • Strategic use of the light

Sunlight for babies is activity, and the darkness means sleeping time as that triggers their brain to release melatonin, a sleep hormone. In order to establish good night sleep, keep the days bright and the nights dark.

  • Rock your baby till it becomes drowsy

According to Kim West, a sleep consultant and author of The Sleep Lady’s Good Night, Sleep Tight you should put your baby in the crib when it becomes drowsy so that it learns to drift off on its own and soothe itself to sleep. Rock your baby till it becomes drowsy, but still awake, and then put it down to sleep and it will self-soothe and fall asleep by its own.

Other Tips

  • You may have heard the tip to make your baby tired during the day not allowing it to sleep so that it sleeps at night. But, that is so wrong, a baby that is overtired cannot easily fall asleep as it needs its naps during the day.

  • Have in mind to remove all the stuffed animals, toys, and pillows from the crib as they will disturb its sleep.

  • Your baby should sleep on its back, on a firm, flat surface.

  • Pacifiers could be of assistance and many parents use it to comfort their baby.

  • Wait a few minutes before you go to settle the baby at night, it may settle by itself.

  • Keep the lights dim in the bedroom, but do not use it while feeding it or changing its diapers.

It is perfectly normal for your baby to have sleep problems, but implementing good sleep habits from an early age can be very helpful. After few months since its birth, your baby can learn to how to properly sleep, especially if you try these tips.
